Homeward Bound... by Susan
Homeward Bound... by Susan
OK, so I´m going home...
I just bought like the most expensive ticket in the world... it´s all cos of my boots really.. anyway I bought it then I realised that means i arrive in newcastle on a friday night! eek!
Anyhow so.. the boots story... well i suspect the nice boots i had were designed for english winters and not portugese springs! They were just far far too hot! So i sent them back with Tim and asked my mum to send out my old boots super fast courier post...
Anyhow for some unknown reason (possibly her love of saving money!) my mum in her ultimate wisdom decided to send them super-slow post and i have been without boots for some time...
The guy in the spanish post office, just shrugged and said they´d be at LEAST 15 days (15 days - what are they doing walking in them?!??!!) from england. Well they´ve had 10 and really I think it would cost me more than the price of new boots to hang around in Santiago any longer!!!
Well that left me with a dilemma... walk on in sandals? buy new (possibly expensive and potentially painful) boots in santiago or in fact... fly home.
My thinking generally was that there was no point to buy an expensive ticket home, I mean why not walk an extra two weeks get a cheaper ticket and use the money for walking... but I have a VERY sore left foot. After two days no walking I am still limping... I think it´s probably the sandals, as they don´t give much foot support...
I have a confession to make, yesterday, in desperation, I stole some boots off a fountain - I mean they were abandoned! I mean this is Santiago and there are abandoned boots everywhere... and they said UK size 7 so I thought why not give them a go... Anyway they don´t fit very well, and they are a bit knackered...and well a bit fountain soggy...
So basically I sat in the park for a long time today trying to decide what to do and eventually i thought i´d give the post office one more go and if no boots i´d better go back :´((
So no boots in the post office obviously...
So I guess I´ll limp back to Ingleterra....
To try the Norte another day!
I´m very pleased I finished my camino off tho and I´ve painted some pictures of Santiago, so life´s not all bad. I guess.
